In this workshop, aimed at all professionals working with individual clients, caregivers and or families, Drs. Joanne Dolhanty & Adèle Lafrance Robinson will present the core principles of Emotion Focused Family Therapy, whilst also providing ample opportunities for experiential learning geared toward practice change. Part of the Emotion-Focused Therapy family & rooted in a deep belief in the healing power of families, EFFT affords parents and caregivers a primary role in their loved one's treatment, regardless of age, motivation or involvement in treatment. In EFFT, the therapist’s role is to empower and support caregivers in (1) Becoming their loved one’s recovery coach, that is, assisting their loved one - regardless of age - in the interruption of symptoms and maladaptive behaviors (e.g. anxiety, depression, an eating disorder, etc.); (2) Becoming their loved one’s emotion coach, that is, supporting their loved one to approach, process and manage stress, emotions and emotional pain; (3) Facilitating relationship repair and healing possible wounds from the child or family’s past, and; (4) Working through and resolving the fears and obstacles that surface in the caregiver during this challenging journey... Dr. Joanne Dolhanty PhD, C. Psych has worked in the field of mental health for over 20 years. She is a psychologist at the Mt. Pleasant Therapy Centre in Toronto. For the past several years, she has been working with Dr. Leslie Greenberg to develop the application of EmotionFocused Therapy to eating disorders. She is also the codeveloper of Emotion-Focused Family Therapy. Dr. Adèle Lafrance Robinson PhD, C. Psych is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at Laurentian University. She is the author of several publications in the field of clinical psychology, and along with Dr. Dolhanty, she is the codeveloper of EFFT.
